VOLUMES STILL LOW BUT SHIPMENT COUNT UP
Some trends are emerging for 2009. While volumes remain in the doldrums, shipment count is rapidly growing. A few weeks back we stated our goal to fight this economic crisis was to gain a bigger slice of a smaller pie. Well, in a way we are succeeding. Our manifests to Aussie and New Zealand are starting to look really healthy with substantial gains in shipment count as each week goes by. The sad thing reflecting the times we are in, is the weight per shipment is way down on previous years. However, the solution is in order to increase the volumes, we must continue to win new customers. Peter Lamy last month hit the pavements in Aussie and the fruits of his door bashing have been enormous. So much so, V.P. Sales, Graham Burford in typical “Aussie battler” (he hails from Oz) fashion next month follows up with a three week campaign in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to woo more customers.
Increased business means strengthening our customer and marketing support levels. I am happy to report customers new and old are coming forward and sharing their feelings with us. They like what they see. This doesn’t mean we rest upon our laurels but look at what more we can do to give everyone greater confidence that making CII their forwarder of choice is the right decision. I have stated this many times, but our goal is not only to survive the times Wall Street and the previous administration foisted upon us, but to come out stronger and better for the experience!
