TRY SELLING A CADILLAC TO JAPAN

Oh what a shame Toyota and their fellow brethren now fear Detroit bias in Washington. Thirty years ago they sneaked in through the back door and deliberately undercut the big three with predatory pricing and GM went from over 60% market share down to 20% where it is today. They soon realized that having their American head offices filled with Japanese executives might slow down the invasion so very shortly after establishing a foothold they approached every “disaffected” ex or current big three “mahogany row” employees. The traitors who jumped did a masterful job of quickly convincing America that GM, Ford and Chrysler made inferior cars. Unfortunately in my opinion the man in the street bought the boloney hook, line and sinker.
Japan, just like China is a closed market. Even today all sorts of barriers exist to stop General Motors from competitively selling a Cadillac in Japan. Oddly enough today Cadillac is one of the most sought after luxury cars in the world. Now the government owns GM I say to Japan, I will only rest comfortable when GM is able sell a Cadillac in your country on the same terms as we give you here in America. In the meantime, I couldn’t care less what happens to a Nissan dealer in America, who discovers that the neighboring Ford dealership is cleaning his clock. I go so far as to hope the bleating from him and his supplier falls on deaf ears in every corridor in every building of the capitol.
Never did I think four years ago when I starting buying Pontiacs that this year will be their final year of production. Never did I think when I made GM 25% of my 401K portfolio that I would have to sell out of my GM stock at $0.80. After careful evaluation, I put my money where my conscience lay and that was GM made the best cars for the best prices in the world. Even after my cleanout, my belief in GM and Ford (I bought in four months ago at $2.49) is now stronger. I am an accumulator of cars, not a seller, so my Pontiacs will follow me to my grave. My next car will be a Cadillac to follow suit with Peter Lamy, but instead of white 1966 Fleetwood convertible “pimpmobile”, it will be a brand spanking new CTS. There is no better value for $35,000 in America. A CTS knocks the sox off a BMW and Mercedes, any day of the week.
I wonder how much a new Caddy CTS sells for in Tokyo, a hundred grand? Let’s level the playing field right now. President Obama, now you really are the true CEO of the auto industry, let’s start applying the same tariffs as Japan does to us. I want GM’s market share to get back to 60% as soon as possible. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Another thing President Obama, don’t sell Opel, sell GM’s interests out of China. We don’t need those people stealing our technology anymore. Let those miserable Chinese 100% make their own cars.
