IS IT RUPERT MURDOCH OR IS IT AMERICA THAT HAS GONE NUTS?

The other day Murdoch was complaining that the Internet was stealing away readers by plagiarizing the news from the print and television media. What news? Listen here Murdoch, you single handedly achieved something thirty years ago that was considered impossible; you’ve trashed the news and took away any intellectual stimulus it once achieved, by moving everything down to the lowest common denominator. You destroyed Fleet Street and the credibility of British journalism by reducing The Times to match your tabloids, The Sun and News of the World. For me the world can thank you for a great contribution; all those sleazy page three pin-up sluts and hookers that appear daily in your tabloids. Your constant undermining of the Royal Family over the years has placed a wonderful institution under siege. Your contribution to society in terms of your media networks’ achievements is one huge minus. You should be flattered the Internet wants to steal your news. I only wish it operated with higher standards.

On the other side of the coin, Murdoch can claim he only publishes his papers and programs his television networks on what people want to read and see and this is my dilemma. As much as I want to admit it, today Americans just love the low-end crap that his TV networks spew out every day. I know I am in a huge minority when I state Rachel Maddow of MSNBC is our smartest and best commentator. Why, because the majority watches that religious right wing nutcase, Glenn Beck on Fox instead of her. His take on America and where its value system should lie quite frankly should appall every one of us, but it doesn’t. He is far and away the most watched person in his time slot. So that is where I draw the conclusion; Is it America that has gone nuts or are nuts taking over America?

The education system started dumbing down Americans over fifty years ago when the loony left took control of the curriculum. Today, life is so much of a struggle for the middle and underclass, even the educated ones, all they want is to be entertained, in their spare time, not enlightened. The best rated news is non-news. Example; Sarah Palin, one of America’s biggest recent embarrassments grabs the national headlines every day by flitting in on a private jet, boarding a tour bus and driving five miles into cities across the country for book signing. The media homes in and adds the necessary spice interviewing idiots who have been lining up all night to await the chance to shake hands with their guru. The ghost written book is filled with nothing but lollypop, yet it is a N.Y.Times best seller. Mind you Palin’s efforts to legitimize herself are offset by her ex future son-in-law feeding the country with his unflattering take on the woman who thinks she should be the next President. All the while Murdoch is doing his level best to convince America we will be in safer hands with her at the helm. Even though I still remain perplexed and confused I must rest my case!
