THOSE COMMIE CHINAMEN LEADERS ARE REAL BEAUTS

Even today, China looks at America as a bunch of right wing capitalist idiots. Sure, like all good communists hypocrisy reigns supreme and that is why they have created a façade that in fact they have accepted dealing with capitalists and climbed aboard the real world. Media and greedy multi-nationals have made a fortune singing the praises of how open and progressive China is to the outside world. Meanwhile back at the ranch, for the leaders of the country it is business as usual; continuing violation of human rights, flagrant abuse of intellectual property, maintaining protectionism and ongoing censorship of the Internet. That is amongst other things like: rampant corruption at local and national government levels, continuing to make junk the world no longer needs, being responsible for artificially lifting commodity prices, but subsidizing them for local consumption and manufacture.

With that as a backdrop, I had difficulty the other day picking myself up from the floor after a long fit of laughter when I learned China was taking a leaf out of our capitalist book in hiring a Madison Ave advertizing agency DDB to create a commercial singing the praises of “Made in China” but with a twist. They have suddenly recognized that the recession has created a new world, a world where a “Made in China” label represents unneeded junk. Over the last six months we have been led to believe China doesn’t need America all because until it recovers from its own mess, Beijing’s domestic stimulus package will replace exports. It sounded great, but how could a Chinese coolie afford or even want a car. He still thinks his Mao Tse Tung issue bike is the bee’s knees. Chinese are frugal by nature and they are not consumers. They survive by subsistence. Rumor has it all gasoline sales have been static for 2009 and yet car sales supposedly rose by 38%. Who’s fooling who?

The simple fact is China needs America to survive but this recession has awakened the sleeping giant. We just don’t want their rubbish anymore. It must be upsetting the likes of Wal-Mart et al, but those outfits are as bigger an enemy of middle America at the Politburo in Beijing. Anyway back to the laugh I had. China is embarking upon making a series of commercials for Americans with all the jingles portraying so many satisfied western customers enjoying Chinese-made goods. The commercials even suggest the notion that China’s manufacturing prowess benefits nations around the globe! No amount of “Americanizing” the “Made in China” label will alter Americans’ view of Chinese-made products. “Made in China” represents all that is rotten. We have long memories here President Hu Jintao. Take a look at what you did to us; the tainted pet food, dangerous toys and tires, mercury laden fish, adding melamine to falsely show foodstuffs are full of protein, the list of shoddy products could fill a book! Sorry Hu, like Tiger Woods, I don’t think you have a chance of renovating your reputation. For my money, just keep to your domestic stimulus plan. I liked China better when I thought foreigners couldn’t obtain visas to visit the place. The quicker we are done with you, Hu, the better.

It's an interesting view, America and China are unfortunately joined at the hip, Niall Ferguson explains this succinctly as a new economic entity he calls Chimerica – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimerica… the thing is, for every bit of junk produced, there are equally quality goods being produced also, our TVs, Blueray DVDs, the components for Dell Computers, swiss quality watches, and car parts for GM, Ford, Porsche… accounting for a 3rd of the global GDP and half the global growth of the past few years.

To get out of the current financial mess, Chinese imports to the USA need to increase and get back to where it was before – The Chinese have horded vast reserves of dollars and used this to keep interest rates in the US artificially low, therefore keeping the differential between the renminbi and dollar such that an item can be produced in China for a few cents…

If this stops, the US is in dire trouble financially, interest rates will rocket and the American dollar may no longer stand up as the international reserve currency – Making the impact of the current financial crisis look like a minor dent rather than a disaster, essentially collapsing the US economy rendering the dollar worthless.

This is not the view of chinese commie sympathisers, this is coming from right thinking economists based in the US and should be worrying for us all… “Made in China” may be your best chance of avoiding this catastrophe.
