TEA PARTYERS VERSUS THE RELIGIOUS NUTS; WHO WILL WIN CONTROL?

As a self-proclaimed liberal and overall supporter of President Obama’s goals, I take great delight over the quandary facing the Republican Party where it actually wishes to position itself. The recent Tea Party get together (unfortunately the media was not allowed to be in attendance) as expected brought the isolationist, anarchist, red-neck, gun totting, anti-immigration, Constitution adhering lunatic elements together. What a circus it turned out to be. Dick Army must feel so proud of the achievement he attracted such a nutty fringe of American society into one meeting hall!

We can thank former President Reagan for outreaching to the evangelical Christian movement during his first election campaign. Through the seventies most of us thought the up and coming “tele-evangelical” leaders such as Tammy Faye and Jimmy Baker were nothing but comedians, not gospel preachers. I couldn’t help cracking up whenever I saw Jimmy Swaggart breaking down into tears during his highly charged sermons. Yes, those were the good old days in the sixties when the AOG began teaching an ever growing flock to speak in tongues. For over a hundred years we looked at Mormans as though they were followers of some sort of cult; definitely not regular church goers. Over the past thirty years even the Catholic Church said goodbye to the Kennedy family and their liberal views and slowly moved over to the right to join the nutters.

It is going to be very interesting to see how the GOP reaches out. The Libertarian movement led by Ron Paul supported by the Tea Party control a lot of votes, so does the religious right wing led by clean cut father of six Morman, Mitt Romney. Only nitwits like Sarah Palin can walk in both camps and successfully hold an audience. However there aren’t any more McCain-type Republicans foolish enough to promote her as the “Hilary Clinton” of right wing politics. The Tea Party is struggling financially. An excellent idea would be for wealthy democrats to come to their financial rescue. Americans watching both factions at war with one another would seal it for another routing of the Republicans come the 2010 elections. It would be money well spent. For me, it would be great entertainment. I need a few laughs to take my mind off the recession.
