THE HEALTHCARE REFORM BILL IS PASSED, BUT VERY MUCH WATERED DOWN
I spent a little time over the weekend watching C-Span and the debate going on in Congress over the healthcare reform bill. Naturally I wanted to see the bill passed into legislation, but I was still somewhat nervous that a few idiot democrats had been bought by the lobbyists and the anti abortion movement. Thank goodness, Boehner and his loony colleagues, with all their fear mongering ended up looking right “Charlies” when the votes were finally counted. President Obama created history today doing something Presidents for nearly a century couldn’t do, signing a healthcare bill into legislation. Unfortunately what we now have is really a shadow of what America was promised at election time. Lobbying is alive and well and the fact that health related stocks jumped on Wall Street signifies the greatest beneficiaries are the those very same companies securing another thirty odd million people into their ranks so they can ripped off.
It amazes me how even the gun toting red neck Republican from the foothills of the Ozarks lays claim to America being the bastion of freedom and liberty but when you take a hard look at the party he supports, they certainly don’t practice what they preach. France is almost as much an entrenched Catholic country as Ireland, yet Presidents can have mistresses to show off to the world and who invented the morning after pill? None other than the French. I believe in a woman’s right to choose, because that is what liberty and freedom stands for and for me that is a very simple stance for an American to take.
Not that I care, pornography is a major employer in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles and one word can sum up that industry; sleeze. Under Bush, pornography grew into a multi-billion dollar industry. For Republicans, on the one hand it seems quite okay for children and perverts to obtain their kicks and practice what they learn from porno websites, but on the other, forbids an adult woman to make her own choice on whether to abort or not to abort. The success of the Healthcare bill came down to President Obama guaranteeing that the government would not provide funds for abortions. I would have been happier seeing smokers and drinkers paying a huge premium for their insurance cover, because they are the ones who fill our hospitals with their expensive medical problems. But the religious right got their way!
Isn’t it ironic with the global exposure of Catholic priests practicing carnal knowledge upon little boys and girls this receives such little mention on Capital Hill, yet teenage pregnancy which has reached epidemic proportions amongst the poor, abortion actually appears a great solution to help alleviate the hopelessness of the impoverished and uneducated. The alternate welfare and social costs of young unwed mothers are enormous, something the right also hates; but hell no; the right’s answer is no abortion under any circumstances and if possible, no welfare as well!
