No nation on earth celebrates its anniversary or national holiday like the United States of America. As a naturalized American citizen I contrast the difference between what I experience as an American citizen and my former homeland, New Zealand. In America, July 4th is about block parties, Old Glory hoisted from roof tops, concerts in every city concentrating on great American music of yesteryear, with the joy and merriment culminating in unbelievable fireworks displays nationwide. Eight thousand miles away for the past thirty years Waitangi Day is an occasion for the indigenous Maori to come out of the woodwork and take over the event protesting their grievances, most of which go back 175 years. Their spiteful, rude, ignorant and arrogant behavior can include spitting, throwing eggs and mud at the Prime Minister, refusing him entrance to the grounds where the major ceremony takes place, chopping down the flag pole and yelling obscenities to every dignitary who is not Maori. The news broadcasts are filled with the events that truly make it a day of misery, not joy.

The way the national anthem (apart from Rosanne Barr at a baseball game few years back) is sung at special events sends shivers down the spines of all those in attendance and if it is outdoors I never cease to wonder how the pilots of those FA 18’s can fly over the stadium with split second timing at the completion of the anthem. I will never forget after 9/11 how every second car flew the stars and stripes for months and months after the tragedy. I am one of many local residents in my neighborhood who flies the flag fifty-two weeks of every year. Every time I leave or arrive home Old Glory reminds me of how lucky I am to live in the greatest nation, bar none, on earth.

This week Germany’s most famous footballing son Franz Beckenbauer expressed his disgust that the German World Cup soccer team management decided it was optional for players to sing the national anthem before the start of the matches. The fact that over half the team is made up of “new” Germans (mostly refugees from some pretty disgusting countries- which in itself would make Adolf Hitler turn in his grave) who probably can’t speak a word of German anyway is a soft way out rather than attack the issue. The other thirty-one finalists, especially the USA, have been fine tuning their singing skills for months waiting for the occasions to sign the national anthem. Germany still has post WW 2 issues where the liberals still want to play down the celebration of nationhood, but they have it all wrong. Franz Beckenbauer is absolutely right in his assertion all team members should stand together with pride and sing their lungs out, “The Song of Germans”, Germany’s national anthem. If the “new” Germans won’t participate, as far as I am concerned they don’t deserve to represent Germany and should be cast out.

It has often been said in California by Mexican immigrants that with the help of illegal Mexican immigrants, they are winning territory back taken away from them nearly 200 years ago. And nothing is going to stop them. The simple fact of the matter is that statement is entirely true. Is it for the better? The Latinos obviously are biased; other new immigrants from Asia don’t care so long as they can live in their own communities and conduct their lives as they did before. On top of this we have the bleeding heart liberals who will remind us all we are now in a global society. It is left to the few of us who care where our culture is heading and we are made to look like racists.

Over the last twenty-five years Latinos have succeeded in dominating local and state politics and today the credit worthiness of California is at “junk” level and going by the pot holes, shabby neglected government-owned buildings, including schools and grid lock in ever getting anything worthy done, Los Angeles and California are headed for imminent bankruptcy. Led by L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the new breed of Californian politician has a social agenda which advances the causes of the Hispanic population while ignoring the values and concerns of the remainder of his other constituents.

It is common knowledge that the recent anti-illegal immigration law passed in Arizona is how most thinking and caring Americans throughout the fifty states view illegal immigration. Anyone wishing to come to America needs to apply from their country of residence and await the leisure of the United States government to approve or disapprove their application. The line of people asking for the opportunity to enjoy the fruits and benefits of becoming American is millions long. People shortcutting the system by jumping over fences, swimming across rivers or crossing the border by other means spoils it for the ones who legitimately wish to choose the USA as their new home.

Here we have the City of Los Angeles and L.A. County literally bankrupt and this week both entities have spent the whole time condemning and passing ordinances blocking Arizona from doing business with L.A. because Arizona legislators had the intestinal fortitude to do what the vast majority of Americans want; strengthen the laws against illegal immigration. There are already major costly social, political and security issues that still need to be addressed because of our porous borders. We need our politicians to uphold and respect the laws, not protect a section of foreigners (many of whom have become anti-social or a drain on our economy) who possess no rights whatsoever because they have not entered our country legally.

The sad thing is we have passed control of this state to a bunch of Latino opportunists who have no interest in protecting and enforcing our laws, but to turn California back into a Mexican territory exactly as it was 200 years ago. Congratulations Antonio et al; since I have lived here you have been doing a great job!

By 1990 Japan’s bubble had burst and while it remains the world’s second biggest economy, the country has undergone significant change, most of which is not for the better. Real income has declined over the last twenty years resulting in poverty and unemployment thus becoming huge a social problem. Deflation has impacted upon the domestic economy where the masses turned their attention to saving as opposed to spending. At least their major corporations realized that in order to preserve their businesses, they became multi-national and abandoned their local manufacturing base. The Sony’s and Toyota’s of this world continue to thrive as corporations but by changing direction at the expense of the Japanese worker.

China just makes crap for foreign multi-national corporations. Apart from Lenovo, (the old IBM laptop) I can think of no Chinese brand that has acceptance outside of China. If the truth be known, even local Chinese would rather be wearing a baseball cap Made in USA, rather than out of a local factory. By and large they hold a very poor image of Chinese made and branded goods. Geely might think America will fall in love with their cars when they are introduced here in 2011, but they will be in for a rude awakening. The world, except Fortune 500 companies, is heartily sick of anything Chinese and so are the Chinese!

President Hu Jintao may still be able to suppress the Internet and implore his populace to continue working for nothing, but huge cracks are starting to appear. The system is starting to break down. Honda factory workers are presently out on strike demanding social justice and everywhere there is an underground of discontent ready to surface. The housing bubble is on the verge of bursting and while that will affect the return of the new middle class back into poverty, the poor who have experienced zero benefits from China’s explosive growth have had enough. They never ever had the chance to buy a condo in the city. Like the Honda workers, they will withdraw their labor until they either get what they want or if they don’t, the country will collapse.

I have a bet on the country collapsing. Seriously, it couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of ruling thugs, led by Hu Jintao. Those commies deserve what comes their way when they are hit by the new revolution. The poor of China (99% of the population) are actually in worse shape since China’s rise in economic power. I just hope they haven’t forgotten how to grow rice!
